Saturday night special! The Paloma.
This
A follow up to the Tequilla diet post, wink wink. WE ALREADY ESTABLISEHED TEQUILA CAN BE HEALTHY. For those of you who doubt that…it’s on Facebook. Going forward with this belief, my favorite tequila drink and most popular in Mexico I’m told, is the Paloma. Refreshing silver tequila and grapefruit cocktail.
Now tequila isn’t all created equally. I drink silver and stick to Patron or Don Julio brands. I’d love to hear about other great brand you enjoy. There are so many these days.
I use fresh sneezed grapefruit juice or 100% organic 100%grapefruit juice. My favorite brand is R.W Knudsen. And, be sure to use your organic limes too.
Some Paloma recipes:
Muddle grapefruit add tequila, soda water and lime. To that I’ve been to known to add a splash of aperol or compari.
Tequila, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, a splash of pinneapple juice and a squeeze of lime.
Tequila, grapefruit soda, simple syrup, soda water and a lime
Tequila, grapefruit juice and lime.
But hold up, this is my favorite and most refreshing version. Make a frozen Paloma. BAM, THERE IT IS! I can’t believe I even thought of this. My version of a Skinny margarita. I love it and hope you try one soon.Tequila, grapefruit juice, squeeze lime and blend with ice.
I realize the Paloma is still relatively obscure but not for long. Those margaritas pack a ton of calories and sugar. If you use a mix just forget about it, it’s off the charts bad for you. The Paloma offers fresh juices and you can control the sugar by adding soda water. It’s 100% natural and way better than a margarita. Cheers!
Please take note I follow FODMAP as “Ish”. I lived for years thinking I was ibs but I’m actually celiac. I know there is controversy surrounding alcohol even with gluten content. Some feel distilled alcohols are less bothersome. Like I said totally controversial topic. I always suggest elimination staring with FODMAP diet and food journal when reintroducing. Everyone needs to figure what is a trigger and what they tolerate. Tequila for me is ok. I drink it in moderation, enjoying one every once in a while. Moderation/limitation with FODMAP does work for most when avoiding known triggers. It’s NOT a life without FODMAP for me.
To date Tequila (Not Tested)
Tequila is made from blue agave syrup. Agave syrup is known to be high in fructose. The sugars from the agave stems is fermented and then distilled to produce tequila. During the fermentation process the sugars are converted into alcohol and it is possible that any remaining fructose does not make it through the distillation process. However, until Monash tests tequila we will not have a definite answer on its FODMAP content.
I do only drink gluten free vodka and want folks with ibs to totally be aware of FODMAP issues surrounding tequila.
For ibs folks looking for a low FODMAP option, I suggest tito’s gluten-free vodka.
Always drink responsibly and at legal age.
Live, eat, share, gluten-free and FODMAPish.
Tequila is made from agave- agave is Fodmap. Agave may not bother everyone but people should be aware. Is this vodka made from something else?

Yes yes yes. Thx-That’s why I say I’m “Ish”. I lived for years thinking I was ibs but I’m actually celiac. I know there is controversy surrounding alcohol even with gluten content. I will add this note to post for clarifications. Thx again.

You’re so welcome! I’m glad to help. No one is perfect-I miss things too and welcome feedback. I can’t drink rum because of the high sugar content, but I am fine with wine in moderation. Not sure about any other spirits. I agree that everyone has different triggers.

It was a great call. I appreciate your input and kindness. It’s a much better post with the added information regarding caution. And really what would life be without wine in moderation. Lmao. That again!
